CRITERIA

> Entering or Returning Students at Accredited Undergraduate Institutions in the United States. This award is only for first undergraduate degrees.

> United States Citizens or Resident Aliens

> Permanent Residents of New England: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont. Students may attend colleges anywhere in the United States.

Academic Excellence and Aptitude for Studies

    Applicants should:

    • Have a GPA 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
    • Be enrolled in a demanding course of study
    • Demonstrate skilled writing ability

    Citizenship, Character and Serious-Mindedness

    Applicants should:

    • Demonstrate a desire to make a meaningful contribution to society both present and future
    • Be involved in a balance of community, school and work activities
    • Pursue goals and aspirations with integrity, resolution, self-discipline and judgement
    • Earn money for college expenses through part-time work.

    Financial Need

    Qualifying applicants will have one or more of the following:

    • Substantial unmet need
    • Heavy student loan burden
    • Special financial circumstances
    • Low EFC (Expected Family Contribution) from the FAFSA Student Aid Report

    Typically, recipients' parents have a moderate adjusted gross income. Last year's mean AGI was $44,000.
